Moving Pictures

Living by yourself affords some advantages. One of these is that you don’t have to concern yourself with anyone else’s preferences when you visit Blockbuster (other film rental companies are available). So, if you are feeling particularly anti-social you can get films which are violent and/or disturbing, and not have to worry that your housemates will speak in hushed and worried tones having analysed your choices or not very successfully mask their opinion that your choice of films is crap. You can stay up late into the night watching a massacre, men beating the shit out of one another and some claustrophobic mental abuse (thanks to Elephant, Ong-bak and Closet Land respectively), and no one need know you are being a bit odd.

It’s not all positives though. You do sometimes get smirked at by the people who work at Blockbuster. And living by yourself means you can’t steal anyone’s food.

For "violent and/or disturbing", should we really read "cheaply made erotic thrillers". I know how you roll.

But it does mean that you get a huuuuge bowl of extra buttery salty popcorn ALL TO YOURSELF! With no one pinching it and complaining about excessive usage of butters and salts, and what ever else you stick on your popcorn.

I saw the DVD of La Vita e Bella/Life is Wonderful when I was over at your place the other day and that is a wickedly cool movie, nothing wrong with renting that, so I do wonder how bad the other movies can be!?!?! Are you really as weird as you state you are, Huw? I dare you to proof it!

And there's no-one to throw popcorn at, or anyone to scare the living shit out of by screaming at a particularly tense moment..

Sometimes I wish I lived by myself. Then I'd be able to take a pee without an audience, be able to have a shower without people barging into the bathroom, be able to eat in peace, be able to sit quietly and not be bombarded with questions about things that are not important...

You also don't get anyone asking "Whose he? So why did he say that? Isn't he that guy who was in that film?".

Astrid: La Vita e Bella was part of my personal collection. You might also have noted Watership Down there, which should have been a warning.
