Lenient Lubrication

My sweetheart Lanette was last night telling me about the episode of The Daily Show she was watching, and how they featured a piece on Erie County Ohio Democratic precinct captain candidate Jean Miller, who was proposing the following policy:

"Nine out of 10 people are drunk driving from 4 o'clock Friday afternoon to like 5 PM Sunday. So I said, decriminalize it. I think we should make that period of time legal for anyone to drive drunk. The fact is, it's legal to drink alcohol, why not legalize it? ...You got all them other days for them to get to soccer. Let us have two days, you can have the other five."

It kind of needs to be seen to believed; the whole piece is awash with a both hysterical and stupefying making-up-politics-as-we-go-along flavour.

Today then, it just added to the mild amusement I experienced when I was alerted to the existence of Italy's Drive Beer, a beer which purposely seeks to encourage the consumer to combine alcohol with automobile use. The Italian small print boasts that 2 bottles of Drive Beer should just leave a chap just under the Italian drink drive limit and thus able to drive home. Its jingle is suitably idiotic.

Latin American service stations, (and French and Spanish ones) always have rack after rack of chilled beer. It's so weird and so dangerous.

That Daily Show clip is probably the funniest one I've seen so far.

I like the Drive Beer jingle too... nutters.

In North Carolina they have drive through liquor stores. You don't even have to get out of your seat to get drunk in your car.

Just so we're clear, every single democrat in America feels that way. I'll repeat that: it's not some freak instance. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER bar none of America's minority party believes in legalizing drunk driving.

Damn, really? Whereabouts in North Carolina?
