Out For The Count

I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the despicably shoddy service offered by Blogpatrol (I’m sorry, but whinging “But remember, this service is free” is a rubbish excuse. No, actually, scrub that. I am not sorry: I’m decidedly unimpressed with the slack dimwittedness of it all), and am all but decided it is time for them and I to part ways. However, I still need my IP scouring fix, so what to do? From a brief look around, I think eXTReMe Tracking perhaps offers one of the best free services but, like I said, it was a brief look around. Does anyone have any recommendations, or want to just bitch about statcounters in general?

Cleavers and myself experimented with three different stat counters when we started 'Yor My Behst Mate'. They were all up and running before we used the site and guess what? They all show completely different results...

sitemeter is my favourite though, it does nice graphs and stuff. But I've not accessed it for a while, I've given up caring who's looking.

I use statcounter, on the basis that it's the first I found and it's been ok.

But those more expert than me, ie most of the blgging world, may well tell you it's a bag of bobbins.

What exactly are you trying to do? I'm so blogclueless.

Well Monica, if you had a little too much time on your hands, a statcounter would let you know, say, that today at 5.49pm someone from a certain London University running Windows XP landed on my blog. Admittedly, perhaps there are better things to do with your day, but some of us are far too easily pleased.

They also enable you to author one of those fascinating posts which starts "OMG! Look at all the weird google searches which led to people coming to my blog..."

Until stats counters can tell me who loves me, they're all shit as far as I'm concerned.

Try www.sitemeter.com If you don't like it, abandon it, for it costs you nothing. I have had it for almost a year without a bit of trouble.

I use sitemeter and statcounter (greedy, I know). Sitemeter is good for looking at referrals but has to be displayed on your page for everyone to click on. Statcounter gives you loads more detail (like amusing google searches) and pretty graphs. Plus, you can choose an invisible counter but it only saves the most recent page loads so isn't too great if you want to look back at site activity.

Sitemeter worked for me until my younger brother installed his own statcounter on my new dot com. (I'm spoiled, I know.) Now I use AWstats
(http://awstats.sourceforge.net/).

You could also try google analytics.

I use Sitemeter and Extreme Tracking. Mainly because I have zero control over my shameless need to see who loves me today. I also have zero control to stay away from the blogosphere, despite best efforts to the contrary (am a complete failure), and fully expect soaring stats in the very near future. So yes, am back. Again.

Am off to check my stats. Again.
