Speaking Out (In Norrköping)

A month or so ago, Housemate Reggae got a random email from a guy who'd found out about his work on films about a certain pre-pubescent wizard and more recently an adaptation of a Roald Dahl classic, asking Reggae to go over to Sweden to give a talk about such things. It sounded as though it was just going to be to a bunch of film students, but hey, the guy was offering to pay for flights and accommodation, so why the hell not?

As the date got closer, Housemate Reggae received an email from the guy.

"Hello there how do you do Mr Reggae, I thank you very much here is a site for the internet for the talk that you will be giving to us over here in the country of Sweden yes it is," it read.

Reggae and I scrutinized the site in silence for a bit. After a while, I ventured to speak.

"So, this site. It looks a bit swish doesn't it?"
"Yes... And, although it's all in foreign, this talk has the look of a conference about it."
"Yes. It does seem to be a bit... organised. With quite a few speakers."
"Mmmm. And some of them are famous. Well, within the industry."
"And then there's you."
"Opening speaker on day two, I think that says."
"Yes. Looks that way."
"Umm, this talk. It is in English, right?"
"I assume so."

So, for the past week, Housemate Reggae has been sporting a glazed look of panic (as opposed to the usual just glazed look) and has been putting together a speech and presentation.
"Pictures," I advised. "That's my tip. Lots and lots of pictures. Distract the buggers."

Friday morning, at 9am (GMT +1)
, Reggae will be launching into his first ever public speaking engagement in Norrköping of all places. I wish I could see it.

Yikes. That's what you get for researching things too much. Best to fly by the seat of your pants, I always say.

I would also suggest showing clips from the movies... Using video clips is always an easy way to take up time...

Well it's after midday now - so he's probably finished and doesn't need lots of good luck wishs. I'm sure he surprised himself and was splendid!

(And if not, you'll have something to blog about ;o))

Wouldn't it be great if he had to speak in Swedish?!

Remind him to pronounce it 'Norshopping' when asking for directions, it'll get him closer.

I don't know why, but "Fokus" makes me giggle.
