The Latest

So I had to quit with Don Quixote. I feel a bit of a philistine saying this, but I was finding it really dull. I’d managed a good 400 pages (400 pages and still not even halfway) and very little had happened, and what had happened was leaving me pretty uninspired. Please, feel free to correct me on this if needs be.

I was let down yet again the other night when the lads sent me to Blockbuster with the remit of getting The Village or porn. There was a lady behind the counter so The Village it was. And… oh dear. For a start, it wasn’t the no-stone-left-unturned exposé into the corrupt money men behind Manchester’s Gay Scene I’d been expecting, but a really poor overlong supernatural-bunk offering. There was the odd nice touch, and I’m sure it’s the sort of story the Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits could have done really well, but… well, I think it highlighted the problem of this Red Light Shite-Alight fella being allowed complete control over his output: who’s there when someone needs to point out his film’s heading in a crappy direction?
